And now for something completely different. Tasted blind. Brownish red. Notes of brown sugar, cola, cherries, roses, salt, some anise and a little tar in the background. Sweet and pure in the mouth. Delicate but somehow powerful with a lasting finish. I waffled between thinking this was old Nebbiolo or really old red burg. Based on the table discussion I landed with a guess of 64 Giacosa. Bingo. This was the third time I’ve had a 64 Giacosa, with the previous two (Barbarescos ) having flaws. Was told the bottle was open/decanted at 8am and we tackled it 12 hours later. Sounds about right. Last sip was the best. This was outstanding and my WOTN.
