Broc Cellars
Alexander Valley Carignan
Deep purple red in color. Menthol, diacetyl, red fruit (strawberry, cherry, rhubarb) and meaty notes in nose. Syrupy mouthfeel, slightly off dry, nice bitterness, complex flavor notes overall with fruit, mushroom, wood, licorice. With time, chewy tannins emerge, plus tactile spritz-like sensation on tip of tongue. Liked this wine a lot, though it did not stand up to ribeye steak or heirloom tomato and fresh pasta as well as expected.

Aug 17th, 2017I love this wine. Easily top 5 label of all time. But Carignan is so fantastic in California right now. Then with the addition of the other grapes gives it some ridiculous body and a sweetness I usually don’t get while keeping it FUNKY! Such an amazing wine. Very good now, probably better in 2 years.
