I do like that they are doing this without oak. Brief skin contact and lees aging gives texture, riper tropical character with a bitter edge and powdered talc. Comparisons were made to Rhône - probably not far from the mark.

2013. Mildly oaked Spanish White Grenache (garnacha blanca). Ripe and plush. Mineral backbone. A little tangy, but not sticky. Tastes like Southern Rhone with a Burgundian accent. Very Catalan. Solid juice.

2013. Orto Vins. "Blanc d'Orto". 100% Grenache Blanc. Pleasantly mineral on top of rich palate. Very fresh and alive for White Grenache. One of my new personal favorite Spanish wine producers.

Nose understated, at first plastic opening up to faint quince or perhaps green apple. First impact on tongue is a mild acid, fairly flat. Wine stays fairly monotone, thin & simple...does not fill up mouth or develop more complexity although acidity has moderate linger. Not one of my favorites.

Lean nose, minerality comes through. Chalky and lean on taste. Not a sipping wine. Pair with a meal that has a creaminess for which the wine will contrast and complement. Quality of wine far exceeds price point.

2013 vintage. Skin contact but still very fresh. Mineral, slight herbal tea notes on nose. Rich texture, mouthfeel. Stone fruit, slight bitter note on finish. Great balance on this.
