This is an interesting red blend. I guess because here are so many different varietals in this blend you get a little bit of everything. Definitely a mixture of dark fruits, primarily blueberry and blackberries there are several other minor scents on your nose. Even with some time in the decanter the was a jammy wine. It did relax a bit by the second glass. It is a nice full bodied blend. Because of all the different grapes you get a bit of everything on the palate. Some nice cigar box, dark cherry, touch of leather and hints of chocolate. It had a good drinkability level. Meaning that the wine was easy drinking and did not last long before the decanter was empty. Starts out with some strong berry put there is virtually no finish.

This is my Silvia fruit-forward big complex red. Clovey like you went to church and smelled the incense, but naughty and young and forward like you drank more than your serving from the blood of Christ chalice. This wine thrusts in your mouth and makes you repent. Drink up now, pray for forgiveness later.

Bootleg is the newest Napa label under the Jackson Family umbrella, which also includes Cardinale, Freemark Abbey, Galerie, La Jota, Lokoya, and Mt. Brave. The label pays homage to “the winegrowing rogues, who smuggled vine cuttings from renowned French vineyards and replanted them in California.” Kristy Melton, formerly director of winemaking at Clos du Val, crafts the wines and this blend of 27% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Petite Sirah, 21% Zinfandel, 12% Merlot, 3% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot. The fruit is sourced from vineyards on Atlas Peak, Oakville, Mt. Veeder, Rutherford and Spring Mountain. Parker called it “off-the-charts in terms of its hedonistic appeal” and I can’t disagree. Blackberry, kirsch and cassis combine to yield an ultra rich fruit bomb, but it doesn’t stop there, adding Rutherford dust, cocoa powder, licorice, purple flowers, cedar, and crushed rock. I’ve heard several comparisons of this to the wines of Orin Swift, and while both are fruit bomb, high octane wines, I’m more inclined to compare this to something like Andy Erickson’s Leviathan.

It's trying to be Prisoner, and it's ALMOST working. A touch of RS cuts into what could a more complex and rich wine. A clear cut market chaser.

Inky deep ruby intense. Ripe cherry licorice nose with green leaves. Tastes like the nose. Tannins on the finish with med acidity. Long finish. Big bold and well balanced. Enjoy now or lay down to enjoy for the next 10 years. Buy now!

Just a bushel full of blueberries with some age to it. Soft edges. Tasty wine

2/2024. Nice medium bodied (even at 15.3%) red wine. Good flavor and nice on the palate. Paired well with the ribeye at Hall’s Chophouse.

Still drinking pretty decent after 10 years. The fruits are running a little ahead of the tannins -but very close. Nice mouth feel. A very pleasant drink.
