8 years into this nice Rioja, which is giving me aromas and flavors of leather, gravel, tobacco, and vanilla. Perhaps a bit of fig, too, but it seems that the secondary and tertiary elements are starting to come to the forefront. The tannins are smooth as silk yet still some grip, and the acidity has mellowed to medium. I imagine this wine is at it’s premium for drinking now. Super company with our “asado” on a chilly December evening!

Pour 16$ c’est excellent. Doit respirer un peu, température un peu plus élevée pour dégager ses attributs. Bon goût distinctif, belle robe.

Exellent. Riserva 2012 (en 2022). Un bon fruit rouge vif et une belle acidité, mais pas trop intense, juste assez. Excellent avec veau, boeuf, BBQ. SAQ $22

Valdemar has opened a state of the art, beautiful winery in Walla Walla and is bringing in some of the wines they are making in Spain where the family has been operating for over a century in the Rioja region. This Tempranillo based wine had distinct American oak notes but was well integrated with the wine and gave it great body and depth. Notes of dark red cherry and fig came through on the mid palate turning into a dry finish with notes of cigar box, autumn forest.

Medium body, red fruits notes, delivers Rioja Tempernillo charcteristics, multiple flavours. Cigar box and vanilla are noted. Compared with the Grand Reserva from the same bodega, the wine is thinner in body.
