This is a blend of cab franc (other sources say Tempranillo), cab sauv, and Nebbiolo from Baja in Mexico. Smoky and sulfurous, leathery, with jalapeño notes that grow and then dissipate with air. After awhile there are red and purple flowers crushed underfoot. Resembles the Espadin that I was drinking last night. There are black fruits – brambles, plums, figs – tea, and nettles on the tongue. Reminds me slightly of some maule valley país I’ve had. I love cab franc and love the vegetable notes that it gets, so I’m happy here. There’s a very spiced finish: nutmeg and black pepper. Quite perfumed. Tongue coating tannins. Fruit is medium ripe and theres good acidity. If only all warm region reds were this lively. Not so much balanced as full of tension.
