Tasted over three days. It’s perfectly fine and simple. More classic than modern.

I don’t know whether there’s such a thing as a bargain Barolo, but if there is, this value priced wine is it. Nose has ripe cherry fruit, rose petals, spice, gravelly earth. In the mouth it’s a great amalgam of macerated cherry fruit and savory flavors, with almost a mentholic mineral note. Very nice acidity and some tannin for few more years of improvement. Terrific.

Not a big or dense wine but it’s got some character and complexity. Nose has loads of rich cherry, warm loamy soil notes, spice and a mild hint of licorice. Some concentration in the mouth, with cherry and stone-infused gravelly notes. Some tannin for structure, and the finish turns savory at the end. It’s not going to win a lot points at comparative tastings but it’s a damn solid dinner companion and a great value Neb.

A lighter, fresher style of Barolo. Nose has high-toned tart cherry and some gravelly earth. It’s a bit denser in the mouth than the nose suggest, with a dry core of cherry and mineral. It’s got good acidity and the finish reveals some youthful tannin. I’m not seeing this becoming a complex classic, but it’s nice now and should improve a bit over the next 5 years.

UPDATE: This is putting on weight with air. There is a black licorice element popping up on the finish. Upping score from 8.8 to 9.0.

Fairly serious and austere Barolo with plenty of power and lots of floral, red berry and savory herb quality. Cherry, pomegranate, orange rind, roses, mint, creosote, black tea and tobacco leaf. Alcohol is a bit apparent on the nose, but the acidity and tannins bely that sensation on the palate. Very tightly wound and shy initially but an overnight decant brought out some wonderful purity of fruit. It also seemed to further enhance the tannins which were already rather coarse and sandy. Alcohol, acid and fruit are well-balanced but tannins are astringent and need a few more years to yield. Overall a very fine example of the region and the big and beautiful 2013 vintage.

Needs more time. Tons of firepower. Red fruit, leather and dark flowers.

Tar and roses overwhelming at first ; 30 minutes later, dark berries and mineral emerged as well. What a wonderful bottle!
