Deep roots of Beaulieu were first planted back in 1900, when founder Georges de Latour noticed similarities with his native Bordeaux and declared the Napa Valley ideal for winemaking. A blend of 76% Cab Sauv, 13% Merlot, 11% of Cab Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Aromas of sweet dark berry fruit and earthy floral scents. On the palate blackberry and currants, spicy notes on full soft ripe tannins, nice mouthfeel, lingering finish ending with earthy mineral character.

Very old school but smooth Bordeaux blend. Can I get a steak?

I’ve got to be honest...I don’t think I’ve ever had a BV wine before. Being that their history in Napa runs quite deep, I figured it was time to try a bottle, and this was reasonably priced at the restaurant.

Extremely dark in the glass. Nose was spice, dark chocolate shavings and cassis dominant. Quite smooth (which I find with most ‘14s) from the front palate all the way through the finish...blackberries, black cherry, just a touch of blueberries in the mid-palate that accentuates the oak. Finish has a nutmeg and bay leaf type note. Fairly rich style cab-blend that went well with my hangar steak.

V14. Fantastic. Soft smoke and toast nose. Juicy black currant and black berry fruit. Smooth, tight black pepper and leather finish.

A little too jammy for my taste and lacked acidity. Big, bold fruit with lots of oak. Needs time to settle but just didn’t love it.

BV wine dinner at The Tasting Room with winemaker Trevor Durling.
.
Third Course: Lamb ragu, Parisian gnocchi, whipped ricotta, and pine nut nougatine.
.
To my recollection I’ve only had Tapestry once and it was years ago. Circling back on it last night was a treat because it reminded me why I liked it all those years ago. Very approachable but also teetering on being a pretty serious blend with ripe red & black fruits, Christmas baking spices, anise, all with a dense and savory character.

It’s a good wine not a great wine. I don’t taste the fruit, so it doesn’t have a bunch of flavor. So it’s wine, I think it’s ok.
