2011 is gorgeous like the others. Hard not to like anything by Morella.

Pruple core, dark fig color on the rim. Dark plum, black fig, blueberry, touch of vanilla and spice, hint of barrique. Med p body, med p acid, med tannin, pretty smooth on the palate, moderate plus finish with red hot peppers, black peppers with stewed black fig flavor. Moderate finish.Delicate and smooth primitivo from manduria. Yum. Thought it was brett but it was netter after a day.

2011 vintage. 2nd bottle of this Old vine Primitivo. First bottle was disappointing - oxidised somewhat. This 2nd bottle was a different story. Deep ruby. Medium intensity- a little closed. Black fruit profile, violets, smoke, hints of meatiness and leather developing, with tobacco leaf. Oak isn't obvious here - maybe old casks? Dry. Medium plus acidity, huge alcohol but surprisingly integrated. Full bodied but not over rich. Tannins are medium plus but ripe and fine. Pronounced flavour of black cherry, black plum, fig, date and dark chocolate. Spice more evident on palate. Fruit is sweet but in check. This isn't over the top although it should be! Finish is long. It's still a youngster - savoury notes will develop with bottle age and there's clearly enough acid/tannin structure to keep this improving for a number of years to come. It's not necessarily my style of wine. But I think it's superb relative to my expectation of old world Zin. Exceptionally well made. Paul Draper would be impressed, I am sure, despite the alcohol levels.

2011 vintage. Very ripe. Acidity on low side leads to very plush and slightly fat mouth feel. The candied dullness of the fruit implies some oxidation issues in this bottle. Surprisingly the wine is not over-Oaked or oak clumsy. Alcohol is hot. Tannins are silky and lacking grip. So so finish. Overall disappointing given Professional Critics high scores.
