Lovely and bright sumptuous bramble-cherry delight. Minimal tannins, yet lingers luxuriously on the tongue. Pungent fruity nose with an alcohol overtone.

1978 Chuck Hope left his job in beverage distribution, moved to Paso Robles, became a farmer, & with time became a top grape grower. Working with his father, Austin led the family into winemaking in ‘95, creating his label in 2000. Grapes from small blocks in AVAs of Paso Robles: Creston, Estrella, Adelaida, El Pomar & Willow Creek, aged in 75% new French oak, 18 mos. Dark Ruby, aromas of sweet ripe black fruits & dried smoky spices. Flavors of ripe blackberry, sweet cacao, espresso & vanilla oak. Big wine, fine tannins that needed 45 minutes, lingering fruit finish. The 15% ABV was not an issue.

A nice elegant cab that really blossomed in the glass. Luscious black cherry, dark chocolate, vanilla hints that really measured up to the nose profile.

Beautiful red. She opened up slowly and then beckoned with her fragrance, deep, dark color tones and assertive character. She needs time...5 years; maybe 10 to come into her own. She answers to “The masses of men...” H.D. Thoreau. This is a wine to dance with, and maybe go home with.

Same as usual. I was able to speak with the winemaker yesterday to confirm my suspicions. And it turned out to be what I thought, a blend of 5 different vineyards of Cabernet (2 eastside and 3 westside) so it’s a meritage if efforts.
