Luxurious body. Allspice and smoke on the nose. Not much I’m the front of the palate but a tart mineral note. But then the tongue gets wrapped up by a thick blanket of velvety tannins. This wine rocks at the mid palate. Then it ends with a few high notes that are almost shrill in their tartness, but which act as a counterpoint to the heaviness of the warm fuzzy tannins. This wine would be great if the wine maker could figure out how to bring a little more fruit on the front. Even so, it’s eminently drinkable. So there’s comfort food— I would call this comfort wine.
