Old undergrowth and barnyard nose pulls you in then a melted array of beef blood, iron and Provençal spice takes over. At its apogee, long finish, just a whisper of heat. Old, great CdP kicks ass, again, but with one of those fluffy slippers (no steel toes!)

The 2006 Les Origines is dark and brooding in the glass, slowly opening to reveal notes of plum and fig with hints of black licorice, tobacco and moist ashen earth. It floods the palate with silky textures, ushering in pure black cherry and sweet exotic spice with a mineral twang. The finish is medium in length, with a distinct flavor of cherry pits, yet there’s also a slight hint of heat here. I believe this vintage of Grand Veneur may have already seen its best days

This is peak drinking. Prune, dried cherry, ripe blueberry juice baked in sweet spice, lavender, licorice... Intensely flavored, full body, soft tannins, nice long finish of all those sticky dried fruits. I love this wine.

Intense kirsch, hints of tobacco on the nose. Rounded and ripe. Quite sweet. There’s something a touch off with this bottle. Metallic edges and a bit bitter. But clearly good stuff underneath. Hmmm.
