Not a good wine to drink by itself. Like a smoky, dusty cru Beaujolais. Nose is bubble gum with smoke and dust. Went well with a variety of foods. I'm reserving judgment.

This wine started out pale, earthy and lean. With several hours of exposure to air it bloomed. Deeper color, nose of tart cherry an wet stone. Medium bodied with firm, drying but fine grained tannin. Worked pretty well with mushroom risotto.

Musty, earthy, spicy. Got better as it opened over an hour. Really ended up enjoying it.

Spicy and a bit tannic - but overall a nice food friendly wine. Could mencia be Spain’s answer to Cabernet franc?
