Grande Alberone Rosso Cask Aged Red Blend
Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.
Nice fruity nose with black currants, cherries, sweet raspberries, light wood, earth, barnyard, wet leaves, forest floor, smoke, black pepper, spices and milk chocolates.
Full bodied and rich with medium plus acidity and long legs.
Dry and extremely fruity on the palate with sweet cherries, plums, blueberries, oak, light vanilla, bitter herbs, spices, bitter vegetables, chocolates, tobacco, mocha, peppercorn and pencil lead.
Long finish with firm tannins and tangy cranberries.
This is a nice Italian red. Well balanced with mild complexity and a great mouthfeel. A little hot at the back of the throat with some bitter notes. Feels like a new world wine.
Good right out of the bottle and a good food wine, too.
14.5% alcohol by volume
$10.

For my first wine in 2 weeks, since I’ve been sick, this was not the best wine. It’s very acidic, slightly tannic. Very earthy smell. Probably won’t buy this again.

Oct 24th, 2017Italian red blend from Aldi for $8. Nose of vanilla and black cherry. Big fruit up front of black currant, plum, berries followed by some vanilla and spice notes. Slight heat from the 14.5 alcohol on the moderate finish. Has enough acidity to keep things interesting and would pair well with food, but also nice on its own. Would buy again.

Oct 27th, 2018Very good for the price, high acid, high fruit but not sweet due to the acidity, low tannin. A great wine? No, however very pleasurable/quafable for the price. 9 bucks. Cheers!

Dec 7th, 2017This was an underwhelming wine to me. Nothing on the nose, it is full bodied with cherry notes and some pepper as well. Burned a bit on the finish. This is not going back into a rotation for me.
