On the fruitier side of LdH (darker in colour, too), with some dried cherry, dried cranberries, a touch of orange peel & orange bitters with the typical leather, wood polish, cigar box next. Some decent dark earthy notes, too. Needs a bit of time to open up.
On the palate this is poised, elegantly balanced, in a perfect spot. Medium body, vibrant acidity, the tannins finely grained & mellowing. Savoury fruit + a touch of spice & a hint of orange peel towards the finish.
A lovely wine!

Tonight we opted for a wine from one of our favorite Rioja producers -- López de Heredia. 👌👌@lopezdeherediaoficial

This is the "Viña Cubillo" Crianza Rioja. Vintage 2012. ABV 13.5%. It hails from La Rioja Alta region within the Rioja DOCa region of Spain. It is a blend of 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha (Grenache), 5% Graciano, and 5% Mazuelo. 🇪🇸

From the first sniff and sip, it’s no wonder this wine gets such great ratings. 👏👏👏It offers primary notes of ripe red fruit, such as cherry, red currant, fig, also dried rose, mint, and licorice; it offers secondary notes of cedar, nutmeg, vanilla, coconut, cardamom, and tertiary notes of mushroom and wet moss.😋😋

As a Crianza from Rioja, this wine must have aged a minimum of 2 years, one of which must be in oak barrels, prior to release. The time on oak is evident, but these influences don’t overpower the ripe red primary fruit character. The wine is lovely and ever-so-drinkable. 😍😍

Saludos! 🍷

2024/1/3 with garbure. Bright, limpid strawberry but with some lactic creaminess - make sense as the crianza sibling of Tondonia

2023/12. Tangy, red cherry and a little raspberry, vanilla cheese cream…a hint of volatility but it mostly blows off. A very nice, more casual wine in the Heredia style

Took a while for this cellar beauty to open up, but when it did the nose was PROMINENT and complex! Pale cranberry color with a deep ruby core, and light bricking to the edges, THR nose explodes forth with notes of vanilla, fresh leather, ripe plums, fig preserves, cologne like spice, hints of eucalyptus/menthol and violet, with hints of cedar chips over a full body. The palate is dry, but the tannins are smooth, with a surprising clean finish, with cranberry, blackberry and black tea, with lingering woody notes to the finish and a complex blend of florals and leather/velvet/cigar smoke peppered throughout, with maybe more unsweetened black tea at the veryyy end.

Decant and or aerate to soften and bring out the dried cherry and cinnamon.

Balanced and bright, yet earthy. Lots of fruit with hints of tobacco and mushroom. Excellent on its own but about to have it with some tacos! :-)
