Twice the price and half as interesting as the Krause Vineyard Pinot I tasted yesterday. As far as I can tell their vineyards are only a couple of miles apart, but Mount Eden is at a higher elevation by maybe 1500 feet. Don’t get me wrong, this is not a bad wine. But the Krause Vineyard is putting out something unique and surprising, while Mount Eden is putting out something that’s predictable by coastal Pinots. Lots of chlorophyll on the nose — Unripe cherries and briars. Just a hint of fruit on the front of the palate, with a light to medium tannic structure. Lots of random high notes at the back of the palate with a very short finish. This is a perfectly drinkable wine but not very interesting.
