Vintage 2015 | elegance and quaffable, but expected a bit more, like good tension | paired with a zucchini oven dish

Tenuta Il Poggione was founded at the end of 1800 when Lavinio Franceschi, land owner from Florence, decided to visit the area after hearing the stories from a shepherd, who brought his herds around Montalcino during the winter. #46 on Spectator’s 2017 top 100 list. I gave a blind tasting and threw this in with their Brunello, this “Baby Brunello” caused a stir! Red berry bouquet with cherry and citrus flavors, fine soft tannins, medium+ tangy finish ending with earthy spice notes. Great value!

Slow-ox’d for two hours. Dark cherries, dirt, tea. Delicious Rosso.

Not sure why this wine is getting killed here. We received it as a hostess gift and it was served to unanimous praise. Weird.

100% Sangiovese, deep Ruby with aromas of red fruits and floral spice. On the palate ripe strawberry and cherry flavors with citrus, tobacco and earthy spice notes. Fine tannins on a smooth long ending with some mineral tones on the finish. Nice value. Good now has a few years to run.

Nice medium bodied Sangiovese. Nice minerals - really makes me anticipate dinner. At least an hour of decanting to make this wine shine.

Ripe cherries and red raspberries and a light touch of strawberries. Some white pepper, a touch of acid, and then some woody tannins. Real nice Italian Red!

Lighter translucent purple. Fruity bouquet of aromas. Light bodied and complete that’s smooth.
