Full bodied wine, very deep red in color. Bold flavors with a long smooth finish.

Trader Joe’s recommended wine from Bogle. About $20. Pleasant for this priced wine. At home.

Dusty earthy aroma. Plums and blueberries upfront and in the middle. A quick finish of dark fruit.

The good news is the 2015 is out! The bad news is it’s good but I’m not thrilled this year. Soft and supple with jammy fruit, cinnamon, and a ton of vanilla-laced oak. Ends with lingering flavors of loam and pepper. The mix this year is 44% Petite Syrah and 44% Zin, 10% merlot and the remainder cab. Big difference from prior years. That’s one of the interesting things about Phantom. Most who have had it before, though, will know while still appealing it’s not as solid as prior vintages. If it were a blind, I’d swear I was drinking Silver Oak. ‘Nuff said about that.
