Herbal, menthol, smoke, barrel, licorice and forest berries. What an impressive mixture of flavours! What a tour de force to pull off a wine like this on an off-year in Napa. So good.

'11 Dominus is like a teenage girl, moody and unpredictable
Jul 10th, 20152011 was a dark and wet vintage for Napa. This may explain the palpable tension that currently permeates this opulent, rich, yet nonetheless lacking red blend. With a gentle spin of your glass, tanned leather and dark fruit aromas are carried upward on a wave of ethanol vapor. This wave comes crashing down with a cheek grippingly sour finish that may convince you to give this vintage some time to mature.

Excellent napa cab, more classic than a good many bordeaux, with richness, structure and complexity to match most at the $200 mark as well. Lovely graphite, tilled earth, spruce and tobacco nose, refined cassis in background. Very elegant, mineral and long on the palate. 2011 vintage.

2011 Dominus Estate Napa Valley -Not a great showing but brings me back to the Old School Napa. Still coming together and should be fun to follow over the next decade... Sure to prove some critics wrong in years to come.
