2012 vintage.
Bright ruby red in the glass.
Extremely perfumed with flowers (roses), plum and ash. Ripe fruit density with crunchy red cherry, tobacco and tar with a creamy texture.
Great balance of acidity and developed tannins.
My friend Raymond foraged 2 kilos of Matsutake mushrooms yesterday from the forests around Squamish, British Columbia.
I made risotto with these mushrooms and had it with this Barolo.
This is why we live here.

The stalwart maker in Monforte d'Alba, and for very good reason. Elio cultivates a small number of closely held, prize crus and knows the terroir literally like the back of his hand. If ever in Barolo, this tenuta is not to be missed.
We had an early taste of the 2012 single cru from Gavarini Chiniera and it was glorious. Loads of promise that speak in favor of a futures purchase when it comes available, if you can find it.
