Showed the kids in class a 'beyond the norm' Bourgogne Rouge. They liked it.

Now this was much better with the turkey. The 09 just coming into its own. Very good Burgundy vintage and it shows. Nice, ripe, bright; dark cherries, strawberries, touch of smokiness and forest floor, vanilla and bright red & violet florals the nose. The body is medium. Tannins starting to get nicely resolved. Bright floral fruits of; blackberries, dark cherries, black raspberries, strawberries, pomegranate, dry cranberries, hues of blue fruits & plum. Black cherry cola/licorice, limestone chalkiness, dark rich earth, vanilla, medium dark spice, some crushed rocks & dry stone, fresh red florals, violets, really beautiful round acidity and a long well polished & balanced finish. Still plenty of good drinking ahead. The 2015 is amazing for around $50. Just got a mailer from Morrell’s in NYC for $51. Well worth picking up!

Crisp and complex is a good recipe. I was surprised to find this at a Whole Foods in Chicago.

Opened for 8-hours, so a bit of tobacco coming on. Soft cherry, subtle spice, celery leafs and a little tar. Was probably awesome when first opened..

My first Leroy. 2009 vintage. It was the perfect wine for a beautiful night: the simplest expression of one of life's greatest joys.

2009 Maison Leroy Bourgogne Rouge. Always delivers, and yet I'm always fascinated with the soaked cork. Consistent notes throughout the case - supple cranberry fruit with a mid-weight. Very pure and beautiful for its simplicity and charm.
