1985 vintage. Medium golden hue. On the nose, some spicy notes and stewed fruits. Deep concentration of aromas workout any obvious oxidation. On the palate, balanced but slightly tired as the stewed dried fruit note comes to the fore. The finish is long but lacks the depth and kick of the 1979. In esteemed company this slightly falls short. On its own it’s a wizz.

A blast from the past- at the Krug House in California! 1985 Krug is perfect Champagne in the grandest of styles. It is decadent, broad, loaded with brioche and savory, spicy fruit yet perfectly chalky and still refreshing. I am sure well stored bottles will outlive me.
