Oct 2nd, 2016Fabulous! So much strength and complexity from a Pinot.

Jun 28th, 2016Actually showing very nicely today. I wouldn't call it fruit-forward, but it's not forbiddingly tannic either; instead of acting like a shell, the structure is nicely melded into the fruit in a latticework of fine tannin that's more delicate and feminine than the usual expectation for Richebourg. (Though I have notes on the DRC of the same vintage from a couple years ago and they are similar!) This opens with prickly blackberry fruit, a subtle dusting of five-spice, and another flavor that's more out-there and advanced, suggestive of antique wood and wheat/grain-like flavors. With air the fruit profile turns redder and picks up more primary sweetness and gloss, though the web of tannin is always there giving it a more worsted woolen texture.
