A fun side by side with this and the ‘02 Diamond Mtn. Surprisingly, I thought this had quite a bit more tannin. Whereas the Diamond Mtn had more of a sweet and muddled core, this was dusty and more herbal. Bayleaf, currant, underripe blackberries and some tar.

2002 vintage in January 2021. This is in a great place. Fully mature with big red fruit and balancing earth. Fruit is fully mature and developed some additional characteristics but still very hedonistic for a wine this age. At a peak/plateau with stuffing to keep going but why wait? Do it!

I just love the 01 & 02. Haven't had the 02 in ages and it is rocking with the Flannery shortloin tail. Showing beautifully and what a great qpr. Soft tannins, excellent balance, showing amazingly well at 15 years old. Going to vacuvin the remaining half of the bottle and see how it survives the night.

Second "repeat" from the weekend. This one was actually better than the bottle three years ago. Mature, but still has some energy and fruit to go with the tobacco notes. Held up well over three nights.

Still drinking like a baby! Delicious, but not quite ready yet.

Tannins still there and a lot of structure. Could still age in bottle another 5-10 years. Was still amazing and great fruit.
