I bought this one from Laithwaites as part of my Winter Wines blog post research.

Vinha do Fava Touriga Nacional ($15) is a must-try Touriga having won nearly 30 Golds in five vintages and was listed as “Best Portuguese wine” by The Independent last year! Founded nearly 100 years ago, the winery has been run by three generations of women, with the fourth waiting in the wings. Go ladies!!

I found it a deep, dark red colour in the glass. It definitely has those port-like features yet is nice and dry with some impressive muscular tannins. Screaming to be teamed up with a hearty casserole.

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

Light, sweet, shallow flavour, disappears quickly, pleasant. Fruity, plum.

From Laithwaites. Almost perfect, perhaps just a smidge too sweet but the quality pushes through so that doesn't matter too much.

Medium bodied and fruit forward. Lacks structure hence the sub 8.5 rating. Goes well with food.

Great fragrance and very smooth in mouth. Very mature although it’s 2019 but just tiny bit sour for my liking.

Bitter and acidic tannin initially at the back of the mouth but after that its incredible rich blackberry - almost like ribena. Easy drinking and the type of red thats good on its own. Really enjoyed this!
