Wallufer Oberberg Riesling Kabinett Halbtrocken

While they may not always be up my alley as is the case here, the Becker wines have always been special. This was definitely not a filigreed kabi and doesn’t have to be. It’s unapologetically Rheingau! The weighty oily texture and ripe exotic fruit notes speaks of the place and vintage, yet in typical Becker fashion, its all framed in a strong acidic backbone and smokey, iodine-like minerality. Couldn’t drink much more than a glass, but I can certainly appreciate its uniqueness.

Bruised apples and balanced sweetness

Chased the rainbow and it ended here.

Complex Riesling, comprising a symphony of Riesling flavors that changes across the palette. Perfect age, and it went perfectly with Indian food. Surprisingly not sweet despite being Halbtrocken.

2019. Magical bruised apples, ripe peaches with intense finish and only hints of fruity sweetness. Mild acidity and soft tannins

Although this was classified as ‘halbtrocken’ / off dry, there wasn’t really much sweetness. Light, fresh, enjoyable !

Really funky looking cork, sludgy as fuck. Needed to blow off its captivity but was pure and delicious after about 10 minutes. Really enjoyed this. Starting to integrate the sugar nicely. Would be curious to revisit after some more years. Or to try again with spicy food.

Nose was delicate showing maturity and citrus. Balanced acid and sweetness, but I thought it lacked punch and complexity on the palate.

This a fun wine with lovely mature nose of lime zest, petrol and quince. Zesty and bright on the palate but missing just a touch of depth.
