Last night we opened the 2016 Jonata The Paring Red Blend. From Buellton, California a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot.

On the nose there is black cherry, blackberry, plum, black currant, roses, chocolate, spice, graphite and dark earth.

On the palate is black cherry, blackberry, plum, green bell pepper, black currant, herbaceous, spice, licorice and earth.

This is a great QPR full bodied wine with a smooth velvety mouthfeel medium + acidity and medium to medium+ fine supple tanninsthat moves into a medium + to long dark fruit herbaceous finish. It looks as though spring is on our doorstep, we had 70 degree weather today and for the Chicago area that is a thing. What a beautiful day and I hope everyone is experiencing the same. Please stay healthy and safe and look forward to a wonderful weekend. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Apparently Jonata fruit that is baby or slightly off the value plot. Makes this a relative bargain. It was tight and not showing much at first. Tasted over 3 nights it got more expressive.

The Pick of the litter of wines I am showing off this week...an affordable Bordeaux-based blend with some clear California notes. Twenty-two months oak, 55% new but by no means "oaky"...Tends towards the darker fruits, a pleasure to drink and I suspect it will be for some time to come...

Really dig this wine. Tons of dark fruit, weight and just the right balance of tannin and acid. As the name suggests great with food.

The 2012 Red Wine is superb. Supple, radiant and expressive, the 2012 graces the palate with exquisite dark fruit, mocha, plums, spices, raspberry jam and dark spices. Readers will have a hard time keeping their hands off this supremely delicious Cabernet Sauvignon-based red. The 2012 Red Wine is easily one of the very best values readers will find in California. This puppy should've been popped a few years earlier. Fading freshness and slightly raisined. Great value but please don't age this bottle any longer!!!
