Love this grower. Somehow the prices have remained steady over the years. One of the few.

A pleasant straw yellow color with tiny greenish hints throughout in the glass. Fine bubbles that are pleasing to the eye. The nose positively explodes with pears and green apples initially. A kick of ginger and herbs. The fruit aromas are taut and hyper focused upon opening. Cherries and lemon rind with a touch of lime. Orchard fruits begin to dominate after some air with some cheese notes coming to play, as well.

In previous vintages, the Les Couarres bottling was 100% Pinot Noir but the 2016 vintage has switched to 60/40 Chardonnay/Pinot Noir. Single vintage, single plot from Merfy with nervy acidity and plenty of zippiness. This is an exceedingly energetic champagne full of tension and character. Disgorged in September of 2020 after three years. Extra Brut low dosage and perfectly terroir driven.

Bruised apples and minerality on the palate. Just the right amount of spice with a slight touch of bread. All the citrus fruits on the tongue with a little red fruit just for good measure. The finish is long and titillating. Everything from Chartogne-Taillet is pure joy but this is definitely near the top.

Same lot as prev btl, based on 12 vintage (Apr 17 disg, 4.5 g/l dosage). Stunning nose with loads of oxidative character. Honey, loads of sweet citrus. On the palate: fantastic acidity, soft mousse, great length. Still young, but the total package.

A student of Anselme Selosse—his sensibilities show in young Alexander Chartogne's exquisite cuvées. The Les Barres Extra Brut 2010 is alive with olfactive charm. Lemon curd, trinity cream, honeyed bread, mint and marzipan, all of which is underpinned by an earthy-minerally undercurrent that dominates the nose and palate of this handsome 100% old-vine Munier. Texturally, the body is dense and creamy complemented by a find bead and tensile acid spine. It's gorgeous. Sample

The Maison shows in my immodest opinion a too-dosè liqueur style.. many labels, this is my favorite one!
