Lean and drying, but with good acidity and structure. Animal notes emerge on day 2.

Spending Valentine's Day with a big boy. No, Cara hasn't undergone some major change. Rather, this Fontenil packs a punch... black and blue (fruit that is). An overt and tasty offering from Michel Rolland.

Tart, plush blueberries, chocolate and med + acid. Slight earth, but certainly earth driven. Some oak appreciated on the nose. Opened up over hours.

2011 might not be the most favored of vintages but I'm finding them really drinkable right now. This is a very aromatic wine with herbs and good depth.

Outstanding effort from a challenging vintage. The "cool" clay soils of Fronsac prevailed in this scorchingly, hot, dry year.

Poured Bdx and Napa for some novices, to demonstrate stylistic differences. Wasn’t a fair comparison, per varietals and age, but directionally right nonetheless. This was showed very well IMO. Nice complexity and still plenty of structure for aging. I gave it 8 hours of slow ox.

Give it 30m in a decanter and you'll be rewarded.
