A blend of 80% Tempranillo with 15% Garnacha, rest Graciano and Mazuelo, aged 5 years in American oak, deep Ruby with aromas of ripe jammy fruits, spice and tobacco notes, resulting from a warm dry growing season. On the palate flavors of ripe plum, blueberry and ripe cherry with spice, tobacco and cedar notes. Fine big rustic tannins, long finish, savory ending with tobacco and leather notes. Nice!

The white wines from LdH are rarely boring and this example of the 2009 Gravonia is no exception. It’s always fun to see casual wine drinkers reactions. Most can’t tell if they love them or hate them. 100% Viura, this bottle poured a deep golden color. Notes of ripe melon, funky cheese, roasted nuts and damp basement on the nose. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with a somewhat waxy texture. Notes of melon, lemon, ginger gummies and nuts. Lovely acid. Finish is long. A wine with real character and substance. A wine that makes you think.

Not dissimilar to the 2008, the 2010 Viña Gravonia leaps out of the glass with a heady, intoxicating aroma of clementine, honey and smoke. And as with the 2008, the palate is a similarly rich and oxidative medley, tannic and bone-dry, with a finish that goes on for minutes. Literally: you are reminded of the wine’s presence long after your sip by a creamy, vanilla-infused aftertaste that lures you into taking another.

God, I love this wine (and, to be frank, all of those that María López de Heredia makes). It’s too young now, but that doesn’t matter. Enjoyed from a Riedel Cabernet glass with Serrano ham. This showed best (by some way) on the third night, even after a double decant on the first. For the first two nights it felt like something was being held back. It is thus imperative that these wines are decanted for some hours prior to drinking.

Once again, an incredible drinking experience.

Nose is immediately opulent, with candied orange, almost marmalade, and a hint of petrol early doors (this passed by the second day). Reads like a cross between Sauternes and old Burgundy.

This is tremendously rich and hedonistic, an old-school, opulent wine with firm tannins and a honeyed edge. By the second night, a vibrant, lively acidity emerged and brought the wine to life on the finish.

Shockingly complex, this is a wine that provides intrigue with every sip, and yet seems endless. Without a doubt improved by 2+ hours decanting. An outrageously good accompaniment to good quality Serrano ham. A very youthful wine to drink now, or over the coming decade. Very memorable.

Nose has oxidized honey, green herbs, hazelnut, apricot, faint-light petrol, eucalyptus, gardenia blossom, all powerful, concentrating and invigorating.

Palate has honey tea with oak sawdust, cedar plank, beautiful saline minerality, candlewax, great acidity bite that comes in late, such extravagance.

We've been enjoying these Heredia crianzas for many years, but they do need time to settle in and we're still drinking these too young, but damn they are guilty pleasures. We really fell in love with the Blanc many years ago, drinking young then patiently waiting several years, wow what an evolution!

Decanted 2+hrs, drink now or enjoy over the next 3-5 years without concern.

$22, yes I know that reads like a crazy price, because it is, only patience is required!
