Sometimes a wine is just not my style but I recognize when there is obvious appeal to others. That is the case here. Sure, this is a decidedly oaky wine with undeniable alcohol burn—both of which I find unpleasant—but it also has a lush, rich, hedonistically dark berry fruitiness...like, to an unreal level. The smoky-vanilla notes of the oak work well with the fruit, but it’s just all too much. And that 15.5% (read: probably closer to 15.9%) alcohol? Oh yeah—it ain’t hiding.

Spain is just stupid with the amount of high quality, high value wine they make. La Atalaya is no exception. Mild acidity, juicy cherries and a hint of spicy pepper make this an interesting and easy going couch mate.

Decanted: Dark chocolate covered caramel on the nose! Berries open up big and juicy. Very nice. Undecanted: maple syrup-covered sausage over waffles! Tighter higher acidic presence on dark fruit.

A delicious oil slick of a wine. Acid fans and tooth enamel quake in fear.

Capa media alta, en nariz fruta roja madura , en el fondo notas de aceituna, ahumado. En boca buena entrada, potente , paso especiado y final potente y con madurez marcada.

Delicious berry notes and flavors. Like many sSpanish wines it is slightly dry but much less dry than most Spanish wines. Long on the finish with notes of vanilla. I would but it again.
