Crown Royal's Northern Harvest Rye is NOT standard Crown Royal fare. Northern Harvest Rye is leaps and bounds above any other Crown Royal product I’ve tasted.

Aromas of toasted nuts, pepper, burnt sugar, cloves and cinnamon waft up from the glass. It’s nice, complex, and a touch sweet.

The flavor mirrors the scent, but the pepper notes are dialed back. It’s a soft and smooth rye, not harsh, peppery nor astringent like some can be. A touch of biscuit (think cream cracker) is present in the flavors and it brings to mind a fine bourbon.

The finish is long, warm, and sweet. I’m pleased and surprised.

But unlike Jim Murray, I cannot say this is the best whiskey I’ve had all year. I’m not even sure it’s the best new offering I’ve had all year. Still: it's fantastic.

For a blended whiskey this touches all the right notes. Smooth with a nice finish with hints of cloves and other spices. For the price you cannot go wrong. Serve on the rocks.......

Battle of the rye. Canadian crown royal northern harvest ranked #1 in the world of whisky! Hard to believe. I have to say it is the best crown royal, smooth and elegant. I still prefer the eagle rare bourbon for a cheap bottle.

Extraordinarily unremarkable. I don't understand the hype. Not bad at all. But not great in my opinion. Middle of the road all around to me. Easy to drink with mass appeal maybe, which, for me is not necessarily a compliment. It's fine. But nothing to write home about.

Genuinely impressed. Smooth. Not much heat or underlying flavor surprises. Upfront and honest. A solid effort from a mass producer.
