Popped and poured to toast my brother’s 40th birthday. The bottle was pristine and the cork was in outstanding condition, considering the age. A little dry but completely doing the job. The color was surprisingly youthful; deep garnet with maybe an ever so slightly brown around the rim. Definitely some sediment but nothing out of the ordinary. On the nose, this is a mature wine with notes of leather, coffee, earth, sarsaparilla, mushrooms and my grandfather’s old camper van that we used to go fishing with when we were kids. On the palate, the fruit is more apparent: dessicated cherries, leather, espresso, dried herbs, earth and balsamic. The tannins have integrated and the acid has done a smashing job of keeping this CCR alive for four decades. A lovely, charming old wine that is very much alive…but nothing living can escape Father Time. Drink now.

Made with fruit from Tignanello estate, mostly Sangiovese with a splash of Cab Sauv, aged in French and Hungarian oak for 12 months. Deep Ruby with aromas of red and ripe black fruits with notes of floral and sweet spices. On the palate flavors of ripe black cherry, blackberry and currants with cacao, tobacco and vanilla oak. Firm rich tannins, long finish, warm ending with fruit, toasty vanilla and earthy minty tobacco. Good now but will improve over next 5 years.

100% from Tignanello estate. Tannins are insane, fennel, wild fruit, concentrated, smoky finish, limestone and minerality driven finish. Good now but hold onto this guy.

Love this...dried red cherries, slight balsamic and thyme...med + acid and chewy tannins....vanilla from oak rounds it with baking spices as well..paired great with the veal parm...
