When you think of Sancerre you would not think of Pinot Noir. You go right to their wheelhouse Sauvignon Blanc, but I picked up this Pinot Noir from the Sancerre in the Loire. I thought it would be something intriguing. This 2009 Sancerre Rouge La Garenne Domaine Girard was one I had to try. The nose is a little challenging but after vigorously swirling in the glass the aromas came forth. I get cherry, strawberry, cranberry, some cola, a bit of menthol and wet leaves. On the palate it is a bit on the lean side but I get cranberry, cherry, spice and ratty notes. There are medium low tannins, medium acidity with a long finish. Not a bad wine and I picked this up for around $24.

Tart red fruit aromas, raspberries and cranberries, and a subtle hints of mushrooms. Very light and delicate, moderate acid, mild mushroom flavors and lingering minerals. Break It Down: Earth class.

Supple & refreshing. Ripe fruit, medium acid, low tannins. Cranberry, sour cherry. Lovely bistro wine.
