Estate Grown St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon

Blue fruit, red fruit, coffee, chocolate, mint, tobacco, this wine was in a fantastic place and I need to revisit Joesph Phelps again.

Iconic bottle. So good at this price point. Cassis, chocolate, leather.

Basically…disappointed. We were ready for a big Cab but this was a bit of a dud. Limited finish and also did not develop much on the palate. 9 years old had expected layers of leather, cigar etc but none of that. Mostly single note and lack of vibrancy. What should I do with the other two bottles I have??

Showing more oak than I’d like which doesn’t play well off the red fruit.

Bold tannins. Good complexity. Very nice.

I didn’t check the pro ratings on this vintage but this wasn’t my favorite bottle. Still a huge Phelps fan though.

Holding up well at 12 years old. Always a favorite.

Wow, interesting blend. Bright acidity lingering on. Lots of plum, Chinese 5 spice. Nutmeg and coriander. Cinnamon . Big finish. Really opening up in the glass with eucalyptus and sage. 14.5%
