A bottle of this wine and a velvet bag with a badger inside have a lot in common.* Both are untamed at their core but soft and supple on the outside. The vigorously - wild notes of bramble, rosemary and cinnamon sticks are cloaked in the luxuriant richness of plum and blueberry jam. Shiny, active acidity gnashes and growls, keeping the softness of the wine in check. Sweet, fine grained tannins act as both a barrier and invitation to the abundant flavors of figs. A finish as soft and gentle as an empty velvet bag. *No animals were harmed in the making of this tasting note. Wine Kitchen, Leesburg, Va

Like a sideline chat with a stranger at a dinner party, at times bland, but interesting enough to keep the conversation going.

Grabbed this guy for a cheap ($10) dinner. Pretty dang good for that price. Bright red berries and a little spice. A little sweet, but not too bad.

Dark, rich ruby red with a burst of cocoa with a spicy finish on the nose. A solid malbec with bright fruit and good structure. Good lingering finish with a peppery expression.

90 points for $10? Excellent. So smooth, new go-to Malbec.
