Only good. Not great. High acidity and for me out of balance.

I’m tasting this alongside old vines Gevrey Chambertin and a Côtes de Nuits Villages from a great winemaker and this rocks. Juicier and sooo balanced! Violets and cherries abound. Could be our #SB expensive house wine for when people in Spain ask what SB wines are like? Good ass #pinot #pinotnoir #sbcounty #santabarbarapinot #santabarbaracounty

The 2018 Pinot Noir (Sta. Rita Hills) is a glorious wine. A burst of sweet red/purplish fruit makes a strong opening statement that reverberates off layers of savory and floral intensity. Deceptive in its mid-weight structure, the 2018 packs a serious punch. Readers who want to get a sense of the year would do well to start here. This striking appellation-level Pinot is one of the overachievers of the year. Then again, vineyard sites are Domaine de La Côte and Sanford & Benedict, which was not bottled separately, but used for wine. The 30% whole clusters are perfectly judged. rich CA PN. strawberry, plum, red and black cherry, liquorice, vanilla and sweet spices. mid acidity, well grained but ample mid- tannins made impressive volume whereas the abv is just 13%.

Right off the bat would guess well-made Oregon Pinot. Fruit in the background here. Mulch, forest floor, & some fungus. Red fruit buried in the mulch. Nice spice on the palate. Really starts to open up after being open for about an hour.

When first open, I thought it wasn’t going to show up. Then 30 minutes in it bloomed into drying ripe fruit and flower with a tertiary stemmy underbrush. These wines are built to last.

The 2017 Pinot Noir (Sta. Rita Hills) is a gorgeous appellation wine that punches well above its weight. Then again, most of the fruit is from Domaine de la Côte, with a healthy dollop (20%) of grapes from Sanford & Benedict. Dark cherry, plum, spice, licorice and menthol infuse this radiant Pinot with tremendous fruit density and power. Dark cherry, plum, licorice and spice are pushed forward. There is so much to like. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2019)
