Despite not loving this wine I was enthralled by how unique it was. Incredibly light in the glass with a garnet rim showing its age. Highly aromatic displaying intense notes of umami and forest decay. Several tasters were put off by the nose insisting it smelled like packaged tuna fish or refried beans. Though I couldn’t muster that level of creativity I understood why it was polarizing. The palate was somewhat more approachable, silky and earthy with soft fruit but the savory leaves and wet soil character led the charge. Though I wouldn’t know what to pair this with and can’t imagine drinking more than a glass on its own I was struck by how compelled I was to return for another sip time and time again. A fascinating pour that asks a lot of you.

Granite soils and Atlantic influence on younger vines in the lower slopes of the Hemel-en-Aarde valley. Light clear ruby color; some earth notes on the nose but mostly small red berries, violets, and new oak; medium acid and tannins weak mid-palate but a nice ending. Simple, sweet, elegant!

Tammea, puuteria, havuisuutta, punaista marjaa. Keskitäyteläinen, ryhdikkään hapokas.

#capewine2018

Had it at Black Sheep in CT. Great pairing with the ostrich and tuna. Nice light color, well balanced fruit/acid/oak. Great food wine.

Delicious, juicy and precise new world Pinot. One of my favourites.

Lovely smooth, fruity but not jammy, acidity low or at least balanced, a very quaffable and good value wine.

Technically a very decent PN, but this grape just isn't my 'thing'...
