There are many undiscovered beauties in the still barely respected Languedoc, and this may be one of them. For less than 20 euros plenty of black fruits and spices that are exotic layers in the nose, and then a wonderfully integrated ride ensues. The tannins here are silky and intertwined with the fruit, making the whole ride so smooth. A European discovery that may never make it to America and that in itself is a shame.

2007 Beaujolais Villages Tres Tres Vieilles Vignes, Comtes des Vocance. Sappy, forest-fresh nose somehow cherries. Satin mouthfeel very minerally and dense. Needs air and should revisit in 5-8 years. Possibly superb.
