Predictably, very tight right now, but opening slowly. Intensely peppery at first, scaring me that the heat of the year would be the predominant characteristic, but it’s receding a bit and allowing the dried cherry fruit and balsamic spice to come through.

UPDATE: Night 2 this wine has become surprisingly scorchy and a bit bitter. I’m leaving the score as is, but this negative development in only 24 hours suggests that this is for early drinking.

Complex, powerful, masculine. Drinking a bit backwards, dominated by savory character- but with enormous potential. Black cherries, plum, leather, coffee, tobacco and dried herbs. Dusty mouthfeel and extremely long, persistent finish. Tannins are a bit coarse and oak could use some time to further integrate. I’ve had two bottles of the 2013 and each one threw some rather large sediment towards the end. The power and structure of this wine is impressive and bodes well for the future. Monolithic right now. The fruit should be singing in another 3-5 years.

Цветочно, интенсивно, глубоко и в то же время очень изящно. Замша, гвоздика, вкус сочный, вишневый, с отличной кислотностью и хорошей структурой. 17/20 (93/100)

Rock solid C.C. Riserva with all the usual trademarks in place. A bit fancy for pizza maybe but a great end to a May long weekend. Will drink the other bottle soon (as one reviewer noted, this unlikely to last a long stretch).
