This weekend we opened the 2018 Grgich Hills Estate Napa Valley Merlot.

On the nose there is nkack cherry, blackberry, plum, black currant, violet, green bell pepper, cocoa, baking spice and earth.

On the palate is black cherry, blackberry, black pepper, baking spice, green bell pepper, chocolate, gravel and earth.

This wine is medium to full bodied smooth mouthfeel medium + acidity and medium + grippy tannins that lead to a long black fruit earthy finish. I hope everyone's weekend was eventful. Please stay safe and healthy and have a great week ahead. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

It's time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday

Dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim.

Full bodied and smooth, with medium acidity.

Dry and fruity on the palate with nice complexity and mouthfeel.

Showing black plums, stewed cherries, blueberry pie, chocolates, coffee, peppercorn, cedar, earth, vanilla, spices, herbs, light licorice and tobacco.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a tasty Merlot from Napa Valley. Still young and would be better in a few years. Will continue to age nicely in the next 7 to 10 years.

Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel. Rich and elegant.

Good right out of the bottle and better with airtime. Needed 90 minutes in the decanter to open up properly.

Wine Enthusiasts 90 points.

I've had many vintages of this wine, and it always delivers. Big, spicy and entertaining. Soft and supple.

Good by itself or with food. Will pair nicely with BBQ Meats.

14.4% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

This Napa Merlot is always enjoyable by itself or with food.

Showing black fruits with chocolates, earth, wood, vanilla, vegetables, dark coffee, herbs, tobacco leaf, spices and peppercorn.

Full bodied and bold with medium plus acidity and long legs.

Nice fruity finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

Needs an hour to open up properly, but good right out of the bottle.

Needs a few years in the bottle to mature and remove some of bitterness at the ending.

14.7% alcohol by volume.

375ml. Wow. This is a lot of wine. 14.4% abv.
Right bank Bordeaux characteristics. Bell pepper, tomato vine, tobacco leaf, vanilla. Structured red and black fruit. Air is kind. Not cheap but deserves the premium IMO.

Here is a great Napa Valley Merlot for #MerlotThursday.

Inky in color with a short purple rim.

Very fruity on the nose with blackberries, blueberries, figs, raisins, cherry pie, licorice, cedar, vanilla bean, spices, chocolates, medium roast coffee, graphite, beef jerky, peppercorn, earth and light vegetables.

Full bodied, rich and jammy, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and extremely fruity on the palate with blackberries, sweet cherries, figs, raisins, oak, licorice, vanilla, spices, earth, vegetables, pencil lead, coffee, mocha, dark chocolates and peppercorn.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy cranberries.

This is a great Napa Merlot. Well balanced with nice complexity and a great mouthfeel. A Cabernet lover Merlot.

Good right out of the bottle, but much better after an hour in a decanter.

This 6 years old is drinking very nicely now, and will be good in the next 10 years. As it opens up, it becomes earthier with vegetable notes and bigger tannins.

90 points wine Enthusiasts.

Enjoyable by itself or with food. I paired it with a charcuterie board of Meats and cheeses, olives and crackers. Delightful and delicious.

A blend of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.

14.9% alcohol by volume.
