A very enjoyable Zinfandel from Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma County.

Well balanced and fruit forward with black fruits, chocolates, earth, wood, light vanilla, spices, figs, peppercorn, light vegetables, dark coffee, herbs and tobacco leaf.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate and easy drinking. This one has high alcohol so watch out.

Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up. Good by itself or with food like a nice burger.

I paired it with skirt steak with chimichurri sauce, potatoes and asparagus.

Will drink nicely in the next 5 years and already delicious.

A blend of 95% Zinfandel and 5% Petite Sirah. Aged for 14 months in 100% French oak barrels.

14.75% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$40.

Red cherry and plum preserves throughout. Wood smoke and iodine on the nose. Super-ripe and plushly textured with a welcome faint acid tinge followed by a dusting of spice and licorice on the truncated finish. Nice pair for pork barbecue.

One of the well-balanced Zinfandels. Not super jammy, not too spicy. A Dry Creek Classic. Good pairing for the skirt steak / chimichuri entrees.

2nd vintage for Mauritson. Older zins can do one of three things: oxidize to undrinkability, age like a wonderful spicier claret, or go all stewed fruit and port-like. This went the latter way. Enjoyable, and went well with ribs, but not my favorite style.

Fresh ground rainbow peppercorn over blackberries and cedar wood. Man is this ever peppery. If "pepper-bomb" were a term, that's what this would be. Definitely not the zin you bring home to mom.

Good complexity, but tannins a little lower than expected. Easily confused with a NZ Pinot. 2012
