A little shy, this six-varietal blend from Cairanne to the north-west of Gigondas is a pleasing if lacklustre village wine. Medium bodied with very fine tannin and (too) gentle acidity, it needs drinking now. Pleasant, but there are plenty of wines in this price point (£13) that I’d choose over this.

Delicious dusty dark fruit. A bit of a hot boozy edge to the finish, but really nice overall.

On the nose this Cotes Du Rhone is reminiscent of a campfire like smokiness married with a note of semi-ripe Marion berries. Quite inviting actually. It starts out with a blast of meaty Syrah quickly followed by tenderly soft tannins. Unexpectedly it turns into a different wine towards the mid-palate and rounds out nicely with much more spice. To be enjoyed with dinner for sure.

Lovely wine. Nose is captivating. Sweet ripe black raspberry, incense- like spices, crushed stones underneath. Equal parts fruit and minerality in the mouth. Good concentration. Just enough tannin to frame it. Long finish. No jamminess. No heat. Nice balance. Lowish acids say drink now.

La Cote Sauvage Cairanne 2010 - a pleasant wine though nothing special, and slightly overpriced.

I always look for a blueberry note in Cairanne and it's here, but I wish this wine was a bit more concentrated with flavor.

Big full rich yet smooth wine, intense ripe and caramelised dark fruits, Sugared cinnamon. Enjoyed with slow roasted shoulder of lamb.
