Hard transition from a French champagne, but love the balanced tannins and dark fruit!

A healthy deep red core with brighter red edges. A muted nose seems reticent, but subtle hints of plum, leather and spice appear. The palate is another story entirely. Black plum, mint, blackberry, and black tea flavors are balanced and evenly meld with a tannic stronghold. The tannins are a little dry on the finish but the rest is clean and balanced. Solid value at $15.

Diving into the Portugese pool. Great recommendation by the Somm at Andea in NY. Apricots with minerals and a bit of oxidation. Cool stuff

Popped and poured. Much lighter bodied than I'd expect from Portugal. Dig. Great table wine.

Deep ruby purple in the glass. Dark red to blue-black fruit on the nose. Blackberry and patent leather on the palate with finessed tannins. Medium plus tannins and medium plus acidity. Ready for that steak on the grill.

Inky purple in color...glass staining. Strong notes of ripe (but not cooked) blackberry, bramble, and plums with oak notes of vanilla and cloves. Strong initial attack of dark fruit with good acidity. Smooth, but drying tannins. The oak is present but not overpowering. For as powerful as the nose is and the initial attack are, the finish is a bit fleeting. Needs time to breath and/ or age. Would be great with a burger.

Blend of 80% Baga and 20% Touriga National. Deep red color with garnet highlights. Aromas of concentrated red fruits. Bright red berries and plums on the pallet as well with hints of tobacco, cocoa and dried herbs. Just a touch of oak on the medium-plus finish. Silky tannins and well balanced. Medium-minus body and quite fresh tasting.
