McLaren Vale Old Vine Grenache

Big tannic and dry, a hearty grunty Grenache. Borderline too dry .. think I left it too long on decant and lost the clarity of early fruit and spice .. will just pop and pour next one.

In Adelaide tonight and trying the entry level Yangarra Grenache from McLaren Vale made by Grenache master Peter Fraser. No detailed notes - but medium bodied, medium tannins - red and black fruits. Driving 4 1/2 hours to Coonawarra today. See you at Bellwether.

Awesome value Grenache. Ripe red fruit, raspberry, leather, plums; medium tannins. A great find!

Fragrant in kirsch, spice, and minerality. Zesty and youthful, a little pinched at first but opening up. Great acids and some tannin gives nice structure.

Killer value Grenache - char and eucalyptus, graphite, with soft blackberry and black cherry notes. Acid driven, under ripe style - awesome stuff.

Excellent typical example of good Aussie Grenache. First impression is 'red Clare Riesling'. Clean with ripe red fruit (strawberry fruit roll-out). White pepper with a little heart. Best with a little chill. #blindtasting #australianwinetasting #yangarra #Grenache

Robust, meaty, raspberry grenachiness. Savoury and tannic. Would have gone 94 but for a hint of sourness.

Great surprise here. Top-notch Grenache, old vines, true to grape and place, very well made and delicious. Totally would have glanced this over but happy to taste and be humbled.

Really rich, more so than I typically like from Grenache, but the spice is nice and structure is well hung, with roasted and grilled meats this is a dandy.

Captures the balance of deep warm red fruit and herbal scented goodness that makes Grenache a House favorite for me. Could drink this all the time.
