A Collection of great Australian Reds - Christmas break up of the Tennis Group. Couldn’t remember much specifically about this wine other than a reputable producer from a great district but it needed to be drunk. 2000 not such a good vintage in South Australia.

Blackberry, blackberry, stemy, eucalyptus, mint, thyme, licorice, med plus acidity, full bodied red but feels lighter in the mouth; med plus intensity on the nose, unfined, unfiltered.

Fruit driven - no new oak influence. Berry notes with a green element. Some astringency with bitter tannins towards the finish. Grapes picked too early or missing the spicy mocha influence of new oak? Unlike Sangiovese or Nebbiolo I think Cabernet Sauvignon needs new oak to show its best.

It's my third wine from this producer. This one is very dry, strong tannins, high acidity. Fruits are barely palpable, not worth mentioning. Also: vanilla, dark chocolate, mint maybe (nose). If I found some pepper note my rating would be higher.

Full flavour, soft tannins, rich mouth feel, long legs on the glass. Waiting until now was well worth it. November 1, 2019
