Classic Lignier and classic Morey. Flesh and structure that has mellowed into complex nose. Full or fruit with hints of truffle, porcini and soy.

The first audible of the night was this stunning 2015 Hubert Lignier M-S-D 1er VV that John pulled out in between the Rabbit and Beef courses. Full disclosure, I get twitterpated when a bottle of H. Lignier gets opened. There’s just something in the style that’s mesmerizing across the range, from the Passetoutgrain to the Clos de la Roche. These are wines of power and grace. Well fruited but with layers of complexity. John considers this to be the best value of H. Lignier’s offerings. Hard to argue.

Took some time to open but when it did it was sumptuous with gorgeous dark fruit and sous bois. Deep into secondary phase. Really a knock out. Exceptional Birthday bottle.

Stunning blend of two 1er Cru sites of “Les Faconnieres” and “Les Chenevery” which sit immediately beneath “Clos de la Roche”. Vines are 37-60 years old.

Loved pouring these alongside Laurent Lignier yesterday at #lapaulee Verticals. Always been a favorite domaine. The VV 1er comes from two 1er plots in MSD - one planted in 1950, the other in 1936. 07 wide open and ready for consumption. Fresh and very lively. Laurent's second vintage back at the Domaine.

Loved pouring these alongside Laurent Lignier yesterday at #lapaulee Verticals. Always been a favorite domaine. The VV 1er comes from two 1er plots in MSD - one planted in 1950, the other in 1936. 03 was amazingly restrained for the vintage. Ripe, but without losing the elegance I always expect from the producer. One of the nicer wines I've had from the vintage.
