With the release of the first Montes Alpha wine back in 1988, Montes became one of the first premium wineries of Chile. 100% Syrah, aged for 18 months in oak, rich Ruby with aromas of ripe black fruits, sweet spice and complex spice. On the palate juicy blackberry flavors with notes of cacao and toasty spices. Well balanced with acidity, full ripe rustic tannins, lingering ending with smoky spice. A big Syrah! Very nice!

Deep colour , young still. Quite powerful nose ripe black fruits, alcohol is well integrated. On the palate quite powerful , not very elegant. Sweet black fruits. Length is ok though not great. Enjoyable but I was expecting more complexity . Will probably age ok though I am not sure what it will offer further down the road.

Great Syrah/Shiraz, probably the best Chilean wine I've tasted. Black fruits, smoke, earth, pepper, liquorice, coffee, chocolate - a lot going on. Big and bold even at nearly ten years old, this has a lot of life left in yet.

Dense, aromatic but a bit too much new oak for me

Black cherry, brine, and gamey. Great example of a Syrah. M acid, body and tannin. Saline and black fruit on the palate. Lots of structure still on this wine. Beautiful.

Very medicine forward / alcohol - too bad as I expected more from the winemaker as a Steadman fan.

Certainly the best Syrah I've had from the continent. Might be one of the best wines I've had from South America. Utterly massive amounts of perfectly ripe dark fruits: black berries, blueberries, black cherries...finish lasts for 60 seconds. Still an adolescent. Years to go on this.
