Bringing out some fun stuff tonight. This 54 year old Barolo shows its age with a brick brown color that has swirling pale to dark variations. The aroma is intense - a wet pile of leaves, old wood, tomato juice, and dates. Lots of dried fruits, leather, and more leaf and earth round it out. Zero tannins, almost no acid, light body, medium finish.

We’re definitely on the umami side of the spectrum at this point, forest floor / mushroom / beef jerky and dried cherries. Far from undrinkable but a bit past that old Nebbiolo sweet spot of fresh, piquant and floral but mellowing red fruit fading into subtle earth tones. This was just ok.

Fragrant and youthful. Ripe, and not porty. Velvety tannins, long finish. In this ‘Glou glou’ era, sense of place expressed through typicity and not the ubiquitous brett and va is too easily forgotten.

Probably the best Barolo i ever tasted. The have like 30 more bottles in the winery. Nothing special on vintage, was bit cool. Fantastic alive profile, micro oxid aroma with paint, blueberries, fallen leaf, medium tannin, med plus finish.

'89 Barolo is always a treat, but the '89 Cordero di Montezemolo Enrico VI is simply amazing tonight. Aromas of dried cherry, cedar, leather, mint, mushroom and forest floor rise up from the glass. On the palate this is just entering it's drinking window, still vibrant with a hint of gripping tannin. Long on the finish with dried cherry and hints of spice. It's a pleasure to enjoy this tonight.
