This Washington Syrah is really stinky, but some definitely love that.

Showing black fruits with earth, wood, spices, barnyard, vegetables, tobacco leaf and dark coffee.

Full bodied with medium acidity.

Short finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries.

Fruit forward with some earth notes, that make it interesting.

Needs 3 hours to open up properly so be patient.

Would be interesting to try it in 3 years.

92 points Robert Parker. 90 points Wine Spectator.

A blend of 92% Syrah and 8% Grenache Blanc.

13.4% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

$65.

A graceful clash between old world and new world. Roasted meats, cracked black pepper and wet leather hit the nose and palate.

This was my contribution as I knew at least one other person present would enjoy it as much as I would. Not for the faint of heart, and certainly Cayuse-esque. Olive tapenade, funk and hoisin sauce on the nose. Very iron driven with spiced red fruit on the palate, with the finish turning more rich blackberry and potpourri like. This one has 5% Grenache Blanc in it instead of Viognier.

Briny, straight funk, was too funky for most of the room. She thought it was one dimensional. I didn’t, liked the mouthfeel, thought there was some nice underlying fruit and herbal notes with black tea. I dug it, she did not.

Cote Rotie! Or is it St. Joseph? Either way, it's $50 and it tastes like expensive, decadent French wine that deserves rich rich food. I want a barrel.

Potpourri. Potpourri. Yes! Crushed flowers, strawberry, slight mesquite on the palate. Subtle acid & soft tannin. Best of northern rhone meets washington. Love it.
